To the editor:
Following this past state legislative session many voters may be inclined to take the easy way out by prescribing to the latest mantra: “throw the incumbents out.” There is no denying that this past state legislative session has not been a pretty sight. Political ideologies were sharply defined as well as divided. This political climate would understandably generate voter anger. Think carefully before allowing your vote to be cast in such anger.
As a voting citizen of Eagan District 38B I am grateful during this troublesome economic era to have Doug Wardlow as my state representative.
Wardlow’s character remains true and uncompromised in that he has not swayed from his campaign pledge to rein-in spending, downsize government, and enact legislation that unleashes the power of free enterprise, which in turn drives private-sector job creation.
This troublesome economic era calls for the retention of a legislator of uncompromising character, one who understands that the future of our state depends upon the growth of free enterprise and not big government. Wardlow is the tried and true legislator for these troublesome times. Think carefully before allowing your vote to be cast in anger.

Pioneer Press Endorses Doug Wardlow for State Representative!
2010-10-17
The Saint Paul Pioneer Press editorial board has endorsed Doug Wardlow for State Representative in Eagan (District 38B) over the incumbent!
Citing Wardlow's "impressive resumé" which "includes work on international trade issues in Washington," the Pioneer Press editorial board chose to endorse Wardlow, the challenger, and not his opponent, the incumbent. The editorial board concluded:
"We endorse Doug Wardlow for House District 38B; his conservative voice will be a welcome addition to the diversity of opinion at the Capitol."
In the Papers: Doug Wardlow is for We, the People

From the Eagan Thisweek, Oct. 14, 2010. Link: Doug Wardlow is for We, the People To the editor: In our America, a country born of people who sought freedom from big government, it is the ever-expanding government that threatens to take the same freedom from future generations. It is our inflated government that threatens the financial security and independence of our children and grandchildren, makes us debtors to other nations, and imposes its will over the protests of the American people.
Here in House District 38B, incumbent Rep. Mike Obermueller is practicing much the same catastrophic philosophy. Just review his voting record to see how he fought efforts to limit the reckless spending of our hard-earned money, leading Minnesota down the path to bankruptcy, just like we’ve seen happen in California. We have had enough of these elitist, irresponsible politicians who disregard the wishes of the folks who elected them. It is time for us to elect Doug Wardlow, Eagan’s born-and-raised bright, young attorney who fights for small businesses and property owners, a new father who wants for his family what you do for yours. His proven ingenuity, integrity and accountability offer genuine hope for a fresh new direction. In the midst of the usual political posturing and empty promises, let’s elect a refreshingly different candidate, someone who will devote himself to we, the people of Minnesota, rather than commit blind obedience to the Obama agenda, in order to secure a better and brighter tomorrow for young and old, rich and poor alike. Wardlow Unveils Accountability Pledge
2010-09-21
Seeks to Restore
Responsive, Meaningful Representation
EAGAN, MINNESOTA, September 21, 2010 –
Doug Wardlow, candidate for the Minnesota House of Representatives in Eagan, MN, Legislative
District 38B, released details of his “Accountability Pledge” today. In an effort to “restore real representative
government,” Doug is encouraging other legislative candidates to join him in
making the pledge—particularly those candidates who, like Doug, are seeking
elected office for the first time.
Wardlow’s Accountability Pledge was unveiled
before a gathering of volunteers.
“Attorneys, accountants, and members of many other professions work
according to codes of professional conduct.
Private-sector professionals who treat their work carelessly soon find
themselves disciplined or unemployed,” said Wardlow. “The same should be true for legislators.”
“I am making this Accountability
Pledge to the voters to serve as a baseline code of conduct for the office that
I seek to hold in trust for them. I urge
other candidates to join me in my Pledge.
Together, we can restore truly representative, accountable government in
Minnesota—government that never forgets who is sovereign: the People.” Wardlow is a political newcomer challenging
the incumbent Democrat Minnesota’s State House District 38B. District 38B encompasses roughly two-thirds
of Eagan, a large suburb on the southeast side of the Minneapolis-St Paul
metropolitan area. Wardlow has focused
his campaign on restoring fiscal responsibility, fostering private-sector job
creation, and making government accountable once again to the people of
Minnesota.
Wardlow’s Accountability Pledge takes
on a series of troubling and practices increasingly common in Minnesota’s legislature. For example, passing bills late into the
night such that details of the legislation become public only after votes have
been cast has become a recurring a feature of recent legislative session. These practices leave little room for public
input and undermine representative government, Wardlow said. “Minnesotans should not wake up and read
about legislation passed late the previous night, and, upon calling their
representative, discover that no one knows what provisions were included in the
legislation.”
Wardlow emphasized that the next
Legislature must first and foremost focus on job growth. “By holding legislators to account and
ensuring that they are available and responsive to the people they serve, wider
adoption of my Accountability Pledge will cut through the fog of bureaucracy
that has for too long obscured fiscally irresponsible, government-expanding, job-killing
policies from public scrutiny,” said Wardlow.
Wardlow also quoted his favorite Founding
Father, James Madison, who said, “It will be of
little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice if
the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they
cannot be understood.” Wardlow added, “Truly representative democracy
depends on representatives who take care to analyze and understand all of the
bills before them, draft coherent and concise legislation, and keep multiple channels
of communications with the constituents they serve wide open. My Accountability Pledge is designed to promote
these legislative best practices.”

Text of Doug's Accountability Pledge:
Should you, the voters of
Eagan (District 38B), elect me to represent and serve you in the Minnesota
House of Representatives, I hereby pledge and promise as follows:
1. I pledge
to communicate every roll-call vote I take on final passage of significant
legislation, along with a concise explanation of the reasons for my vote, via
Facebook, Twitter, and the Web shortly after each vote.
2. I
pledge to vote against final passage of any bill for which I am not provided
ample time to first read and understand the bill.
3. The people of Eagan should not have
to travel to Saint Paul in order to meet with their elected
representatives. Accordingly, absent exigent circumstances, I pledge to
hold open and regular “office hours” to meet with constituents one on one or in
small groups, at my home or another specified location within District 38B, at
least one time each week during session and one time each month when the
legislature is not in session.
Signed
this 16th day
/s Douglas G. Wardlow of September 2010
